The movie tries to build in a little suspense, but it has some awkward lines and acting moments. The extreme violence, foul language, sex, and nudity make for an abhorrent combination. The extreme nude scene destroys what little credibility the rest of the movie tries to build with an attempt at providing a more interesting plot with more interesting characters. The movie is already playing to the lowest common denominator with plenty of graphic, R-rated horror violence. The extreme nude scene shows that the filmmakers are really just interested in the shock value they can generate while trying to put live bodies into theater seats. The movie opens in a small coal town in Pennsylvania. The lone survivor of a mine accident, Harry Warden, is in a coma. The old sheriff eventually shoots Harry in the mine, but his body is never found. Everyone resents this, including his ex-girlfriend, Sarah. Despite their young son, Axel is cheating on Sarah.
It is a remake of the Canadian slasher film , and focuses on residents in a small mining town that is plagued by a serial killer on Valentine's Day. After filming on location in Pennsylvania , the film was given a 3D theatrical release in the United States on January 16, by Lionsgate. It was the first R-rated film to be projected in RealD technology and to have a wide release 1, locations in 3D-enabled theaters. On Valentine's Day , the small mining community of Harmony is rocked by an explosion at the Hanniger mine. Comatose Harry Warden is the sole survivor, after killing five fellow miners to conserve his own oxygen. Tom Hanniger, son of the mine's owner, is blamed for the explosion.
