Patriarchal leadership is something that most women in the world valued until recently, but it is still a chief value with Mormons. And as an outsider it will be obvious to you what's going on, but here's an awesome breakdown from a couple that flipped from "we go to church every week - we will write a Mormon blog" to resigning over the new policy banning children of gays all over the NY Times this month and something that is upsetting many staunch church members a few days ago. Just talk to her honestly, and if you have to, use the old wonder of logic. Like you I grew up with and taught the standard LDS beliefs about temple marriage, celestial kingdom, etc. It will be up to you, her man, to support the positive expectations. Never marry someone with the goal of a post-marriage conversion. They require a healthy dose of flexibility, nontraditional expectations, and teamwork You aren't always gonna have a Christmas etc I can understand it would be hard to understand the cues you are getting if you have no basis for that lifestyle, but really think it over.
The intrusion into my life of an apparently irrational belief that was immune to my influence would have been felt more keenly every year. I'm not quite bitter but a tad fed up as have given up family, career, friends and started afresh x 2 again to be left alone at the other side of the planet with two young kids, moving house and setting up home with just 4 suitcases. And also I thought it was weird she wore some kind of pants that come to her knees under her other pants, but I never asked about that. My faith, while less orthodox, has certainly matured. She's already past her prime in the Mormon dating market. Are they a functioning member in society. So, I'm in a relationship with a 3rd year med student and we are trying to find a date to get married. There is no way she will may you without you going to the temple. Then she can have a chance to actually be the individual she is, and they can have an adult conversation about their future and whether or not they have one. She said we couldn't watch it because the lady who produced the doc was formerly a professor at BYU but has since left the church, so she wouldn't have anything good to say. There are other occasions for humor, but these two are off the table. I have been married to an er doctor for almost 19 years. It all depends on the girl. Hopefully she could realize if she was born into one of these cults that also distrust apostates she probably wouldn't see through them either. I think people get carried away with the whole social status of a Doctor which is really unnecessary. I don't want to give up as I think it is still the stress of the exams that is motivating her response and that given time, we could work things out and have a very special and loving relationship. I've only been married for 1 year and the situation is kicking me right on my behind.
